"An Inside Perspective"

June 2011

My Dear Family in Christ,

Ever precious greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!
One of the things that I specialize in when doing the grounds around the Greenhouse is borders or berms. I have a layout in my mind for the whole area before the season starts and it all flows from the outlay of the borders. In fact, the rascals have even dubbed me with the moniker “bermmeister.”

The areas along the road, buildings and sidewalks are all framed in by three-foot wide flower bed borders filled with perennials. This way, without me having to do too much early on in the season, I have a framework of borders with flowers that come back fresh yearly in the same design but only fuller.

This system keeps everything looking militarily sharp and orderly, just like I like it. Is it not written, “Let everything be done decently and in order?” (1 Cor. 14:40) O.K., it’s a stretch and out of context but you get my point.

I have everything hedged in, as it were, and without these borders the weeds and everything else would go crazy! As it is, the weeds can only go up to the borders’ edge. If they even creep an inch beyond the border they will stand out like a sore thumb and are immediately attacked by myself or one of the rascals.

Did you know that the Lord has a hedge, even a border, around all of His redeemed? Yes precious one, even you. It is written, if I may quote that “old serpent” (Rev. 12:9) concerning Job, “Hast not Thou made an hedge about him, and about all his house and about all that he hath on every side?” (Job 1:10a)

Beloved, God is the true “BermMeister!” He has placed borders around our lives, our loved ones and even our property to protect us from the weeds of this world. The weeds that creep without ceasing seeking always to entangle you in the affairs of this world. The weeds that distract you from your redeemed purpose and calling. Precious one, our Father had the framework and layout of your life in His mind before your season even started. Everything in your walk flows from you staying within the outlay of those borders. Step outside into sin, even one inch, and you stand out like a sore thumb to be immediately attacked by the devil.

All of these disciplined borders allow for the rest of the inside flower beds to be planted with annuals every year. In like manner, the disciplined borders God has placed in our lives allow for our inside man to be planted freely by grace.

Each year for varieties’ sake and the joy of the growing season, we add different plants with a little different design twist. We try to get some “oooh’s” and “aaah’s” of approval out of the people that walk by. It’s funny, but almost everyone walks right by and notices nothing. I watch them stroll past beautifully blooming bright red roses without ever noticing them.

Beloved, never be in such a hurry in your walk that you cannot stop for a moment to rejoice in the awesome creation of God! Not only are roses beautiful to the eye but they are also a delight to the nose. What can match the heavenly aroma of a rose blossom in all of its fullness? On a side-bar, the miracle rose bush from last month’s Inside Perspective now has beautiful pink roses on it even as we speak! God glorifies Himself!

It is written, “Cursed is the ground for thy sake...” (Gen. 3:17c) Paul expounds on this in Romans 8:18-22 by teaching us that “...the creation was made subject to futility...” and that “...creation itself shall [one day] be delivered from the bondage of corruption. . . For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”

Ponder this thought...these earthly roses are fallen, yes, corrupted by “The Fall.” Perhaps you have never considered it, but roses are fallen too, and like us, they are not yet what they will be when they come out fully from under the curse. Fallen roses, and yet, still wonderfully lovely, who would have thunk it? The Lord is militarily sharp and orderly in all His doings concerning us because our God is a God of purpose. He knows how to grow roses, and in fact you and I are His roses.

Use your sanctified imagination to wonder what they, as well as we, shall be like in the recreation. Oh, Rose of Sharon . . . beautiful Savior . . . glorious Lord . . . we worship You in Your creative majesty! Oh glory, shall we not be as Thee!!

Beloved, I am diligent in the tending of my roses, how much more so shall the Lord be in tending you? Perhaps you’ve stepped outside your borders? Watch your step if you want to have the heavenly aroma of Christ in your walk and hear from the Lord the . . .
