"An Inside Perspective"

November 2005

My dear family in Christ,

Ever precious greetings in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ! Life in prison is very difficult. It is a house full of discouragement......broken lives and dreams are the song of every prisoner's heart. Due to our sins, we are cast out of society. It has always cut deeply into my heart, knowing the truth, that I am now deemed unfit for society. More so, that the State now pays ample amounts of money to keep me out!

Chaos is the norm in prison. In the midst of that chaos, God has given me a most special brother in the Lord. We will call him ďOfficer Friendly.Ē He is a Corrections Officer, we call them C.O.ís for short. This is a brother that the Lord, in His infinite foresight and grace, has provided a job during the same time as my prison sentence. "Officer Friendly" loves the Lord very deeply, and therefore, he cares about prisoners and their needs, most especially, the Christian prisoners. It is written, "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith."

This C .0., a wonderful Spirit-filled man of God, is mockingly called "Officer Friendly" by the unsaved officers because of the way that he treats and interacts with the prisoners. He is very lovingly called so by us. He treats us fairly and justly. He hugs me, in front of whomsoever, every time I see him; simply unheard of in prison! He is deeply loved and respected by the Christian community here, and by none, more than myself. I have no doubt that he is a jewel of great worth in the Lordís sight!

I have been blessed to have a closer relationship with "Officer Friendly" than probably any other prisoner. His impact on my life and walk behind these prison walls has been invaluable. He is a constant encourager and always quick to pray with and for us, while at the same time, he himself is under chronic care and the head of a large family.

It has been my observation, over these many years, that a great multitude of good things have happened in my life because of "Officer Friendly". He is advocating on my behalf all the time. I usually donít find out until later, why things went the way they did for me. I donít always see him, but he is always there. At times, I even forget that he is here. Then, when I least expect it, when I need some help, favor miraculously comes my way. "Officer Friendly" is always behind the scenes, making phone calls to the Administration, beseeching them for my favor. Many times, even interceding for my visitors, making sure they all get in on visit day. Later on I would hear, "Who was that friendly officer, he was so polite and helpful?" Little did they know, it was the Lordís, "Officer Friendly".

Occasionally, he just pops-up with the Word of the Lord on his heart, and encourages me out of my prison induced stupor (yes, they do come upon us at times, smile). "Officer Friendly" is tirelessly mediating on my behalf, always seeking my highest good. I love to cook and we both love to eat! Somehow he found out how much I love onions (a treasure in here), and from then on out, I would always find them in my cell. We affectionately tell each other, "I love you like cooked food." HA!

I suffered terribly from athletes foot for over ten years because I could not get the proper medication from the medical department. I spoke one word to Him, He stood in the gap, and my ten years of suffering were over. Mostly though, he has been a great brother and friend to me. It is my prayer that I may one day wash his feet, in joyful gratitude, as a token of the great depth of my love for him.

"Officer Friendly", in my prison life, is illustrative of the great and awesome spiritual truth of Jesus Christís Heavenly priesthood. You canít see Him, but He is always there! It is written, "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."

Let me remind you of His constant, unseen, advocacy on your behalf. He is in Heaven, even now, mediating for you. For His glory, He is always seeking your highest good in all things. He is tirelessly ministering behind the scenes in the power of an endless life. He calls the Administration, speaking constantly to the Father (the Administrator) in your stead. Speak just one word to Him in prayer and He will stand in the gap. Occasionally, He just pops up, by the Spirit, in your spirit, with a Word of encouragement for you - like right now!

Praise God! Jesus Christ is our unceasing advocate. It is written, "My little children, these things write I unto you that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." Faint not beloved...
