"An Inside Perspective"

May 2003

My Dear Family in Christ,

Ever precious greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Over the last six months or so, we have all, whether we want to admit it or not, been fixed upon the situation in Iraq, myself included. We are, as those who know the Lord, a curious and expectant sort, as we wait for all the prophetic pieces of God’s holy puzzle to fall into place, even the consummation of His kingdom. It is written, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done… [maranatha]… Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”

After the diplomatic routes were exhausted and war was imminent, there was a heightened sense of expectation… will this be the day the war starts? As we waited for the first shots to be fired, we began to learn about a new type of reporting that was to be called embedded reporting. It is a new concept from the Public Relations Department of the military. Its aim is to give us up front, real time reporting, that will bring the war right into our living rooms as never before.

These embedded reporters are representatives of their various news agencies and their job is to tell the truth about whatever situations they are embedded in. These embedded reporters give to the people at home a truthful, first hand perspective that they’ve never seen before. They have shown us, up close, the awesome power of our military might. They have also shown us how an army, consisting of many branches, can operate as one fighting force, and as one, quickly defeat their enemy. These embedded reporters lived, ate, and slept side by side with the soldiers. They identified with them in the truest sense of the word. Indeed, being embedded cost some of them their very lives!

As I reflected on this whole principle of being an embedded reporter, the Holy Spirit showed me its twofold application to the Body of Christ. First, we as Christians, are by grace through faith, embedded in Christ by God. From God’s perspective we are identified with Christ in the most intimate sense. It is written, “For ye are dead and your life is hid [embedded] with Christ in God.” We were embedded “in Christ before the foundation of the world…” Isn’t that a wonderful thought?

Secondly, an Christians embedded in Christ, we are then God’s embedded reporters to this world in all of our various life situations. Adam was embedded by God in the garden to head the human race. Moses was embedded by God in Egypt to bring deliverance of His people. King David was the Lord’s embedded warrior to bring down Goliath and lead God’s people, Israel. The apostle Paul was an embedded reporter for Christ to “bear My Name before the Gentiles” and to “suffer for His name’s sake.” It is written, “To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.” Finally, and most gloriously, the Son of God, God the Son Himself, was embedded in “flesh and dwelt among us!” He identified with us and met us at our point of need. It is written, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.”

My challenge to you today is, where does the Lord have you embedded? We, as Christians, are embedded reporters, we report the Truth of God’s Word to the people of this world. We are to show them, in the gospel, a clear, fresh, hope-filled perspective that they have never heard before. We are to show people that their real enemy is sin and then to teach them how to defeat it in Christ. We also show them, in the gospel, the awesome power of God’s military might! It is written, “Finally my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might… Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints…” There are no guided-missiles that can compare to a prayer “out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned…!” Being embedded in Christ, may indeed, cost you your very life. Are you willing?

I am embedded in prison, for now it is my calling. I intend to be faithful while here, as an embedded reporter, to report the Truth of the Word. Some of you are embedded by God in your families to be Godly mothers and fathers, be faithful. Some of you are embedded by the Lord in your work places, ministry positions, choirs, and many other places, be faithful. All of us are embedded in Christ in our own right and called to some type of specific service in the body of Christ. Do you know what your calling and gifting is? To operate fruitfully in the Body of Christ, we must know our gifting. It is written, “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure…” Seek god for your embedded purpose in this world. It is written, “But covet earnestly the best gifts.”

If you do not answer the call to do your duty, as an embedded reporter for God, to bring real (Heavenly) time Truth to this perishing world, watch yourself, because I know of one fellow who God embedded in the belly of a whale until he did answer his calling!! (smile)

Joyfully in Jesus,
Love Phillip
